Seize the drink

Hibiscus bloom, elderberry, peppermint leaf, live Kombucha cultures and water from the Australian Alps are just some of the things that went into the creation of Carpe Diem, an all-natural beverage from the founder of Red Bull.

The well-being drink hit Southern California’s markets earlier this year, after many years of popularity among European consumers. Carpe Diem is called, “drinking with a purpose” because it aims to help people lead a healthier lifestyle.

“It’s about drinking something functional that gives back to your body and provides something for you besides great taste,” says Victoria Pevan, spokeswoman for Carpe Diem.

The three flavors – Kombucha, Ginkgo and Kefir – each offer a special blend of natural ingredients, like green tea and Kombucha, which have benefits some cultures have recognized for thousands of years, Pevan says. Kefir, known as the “drink of the centenarians,” releases organic acids and enzymes in the body that help boost its natural defenses. “It’s a lifestyle drink,” Pevan says.

Carpe Diem is available at Whole Foods stores, Bristol Farms and Ralphs throughout Orange County. Visit www.carpediem.com for more health inspiration and to check out Carpe Diem’s drink of the month.
